A water dog is a gundog created in order to flush and collect water game. The ancestors of most current dog breeds are regarded to be water dogs

Water dogs are typically medium-sized, energetic canines, with their tight waterproof caps and intense swimming urge being the most noticeable characteristic. Traditionally, many hairy water dogs have their coats cut with a bare midriff and background to help you swim by lowering drag, while keeping a long coat around your chest to minimize heat shock when you plunge into the water.
