 Brittany

The Brittany is a race of a pistol hunting dog. Although commonly called Brittany Spaniel, the working characteristics of the breed are far more similar to those of a pointer or a spaniel than a spaniel. Brittany was built between the 17th and the 19th centuries and formally acknowledged early in the 20th centuries in Brittany, a province in NW France.

The name "Brittany" originates in the area of Bretagne in the northwest of France. Images of the hunting and recovery of orange and white Brittany-like dogs were found on tapestries and 17th-century artworks. A description of hunting published by Rv. Davies in 1850 gives the earliest documented and verifiable record of Brittanys. He recounted hunting for little canines that had been "bobtailed" and who had been great hunters. The contemporary Bretagne was said to have been born with English setters at the same period.

In 1907, Brittany was initially identified as a race by the registration in France of orange and white males, called Boy. The initial criteria in the same year were therefore outlined. In 1931, the breed was recognized by America and in 1934 the American Kennel Club authorized it. 1982 formally the name "Spaniel" was discarded

Typically, the Brittany is quite athletic, compact, powerful and strong without being heavy. Their heads are medium in size with floppy ears, often expressed intelligently, vigorously, vigorously and elastically, long and free of stride.

Most Brittany have naturally short spikes, but some seldom have large spikes that may be fastened to 3–10 cm (1.2–3.9 in) in length.

Color of the breed is different: in the American Brittany orange, white or liver and white are most frequent hues; orange roane and liver roane are additional colours. An acceptable liver, orange tricolor is specified by the American Brittany Standard.

Brittans are mid-sized dogs, whose heads are usually bigger and blocker than French (17.5–20.5 inches (44–52 cm) in the garnet as defined by AKC standard in 1990[2]). Instead, they are feminine at the bottom. A correctly built and healthy Brittany maintains weight, depending on the weight, between 30–45 livres (14–20 kg). [
