Field Spaniel
Field Spaniel
They have no undercoat, like in most other fields, and their fur is darker than other spaniels. Their coats are mainly made from plain colors and sometimes with breast markings. They may make fine family dogs and are tolerant with children, but they can need some purpose to avoid boredom and destruction, either as a hunting or as an agility work.
The Field Spaniel is a spaniel-type medium-sized dog race. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, they were originally developd as all-black display dogs and were unpopular for hunting. But it was rebuilt in the mid-20th century as a long-legged dog, which was more suited for field labor. They are currently an uncommon race and are classified by The Kennel Club as a vulnerable race.
Origin and history
The Spaniel Field was initially established by competition who tried to develop a whole-black Spaniel for the show ring. One of the first Spaniel breeding methods, Thomas Jacobs, said about the origin. "Many have written and said about the purity of the breed, depreciating the ways I have been able to produce it calculated as alteration of a presumed type and frequent missiles have been thrown at me and my dogs from behind the hedge. The first Spaniel breeders, Thomas Jacobs, have been criticized. But where are we hearing so much of the pure bred black spaniel? There is no evidence of the existence of the pure bred man (if any!). Like most dogs of sport,They're the consequence of several crossings."
Sportsmen were disliked, as the dark colors of the race did not appear during hunting settings and the lengthy and short form of the early race was not very practical to move smoothly through the shell. Phineas Bullock from previously owned dogs of Sir Francis Burdett, secretary of the Birmingham Dog Show, produced Field Spaniel's low-slung variation. A number of black cocker swans were reported to have belonged to Burdett. The Sussex Spaniel and the English Water Spaniel crossed Bullock. In the 1870s, with his Field Spaniel range, he was highly successful in the show ring. However, the outcome was a dog that, other from the head itself, was virtually precisely like the Sussex Spaniel.
Choice Obo, who was born in 1879 of a Sussex Spaniel dad and a Field Spaniel dad. The dog is known to be the father of the current English Cocker Spaniel. Obo's offspring Ch. Obo II is said to be the father of contemporary American cocker Spaniel, whose body was just 10 inch height.
By 1909, a Field Spaniel had an average weight of 35-45 pounds (16-20 kg).
The breed was further mixed with characteristics introduced by the basset hound. Various genetic health concerns have arisen and measures have been attempted to remedy race disorders. English Springer Spaniels have been utilized to bring healthier components into the breed and have produced the more bearing spaniel we currently know. The contemporary breed is mainly traceable by four dogs from the 1950s: Teffont Colombina, Rhiwla's Morwena Elambury, Teal Gormac, and Regal Ronayne.
Even in the UK, the Field Spaniel is still an uncommon breed. The Kennel Club registered a total of 51 dogs in 2009 and is continuously decreasing since 2000. The Spaniel Field has the lowest numbered registered year on year among all Spaniel breeds recognized with The Clubs of Kennels, with only the Sussex Spaniel finished second with 60 registrations in 2009. This is comparable to the 12,700 English Springer Spaniel and 22,211 2009 registrations in the English Cocker Spaniel.
The race was registered by The Kennel Club as a vulnerable indigenous race to promote the breed.
appearance
For Feld Spaniel, the typical size is between 41 and 48cm (16–27kg) and between 45–19cm (35–60pounds). The English Cocker Spaniel and the English Springer Spaniel have this dimension roughly. His coat is in full black, liver, or roan colours. Tan points can be checked or marked as the rest of the body with white marks on the throat and on the thorn.
They have a medium-long single coat with no base. On the breast, belly, ears and rear of the legs, fur shows feathering. The cap is not as heavy as a cocker spaniel but has to be groomed so that matting does not occur in the hair. In some countries, including the UK, tail docking has been prohibited but there has been an exemption for livestock.
character of behavior
Active and curious breed, the Field Spaniel is an excellent companion. They may, however, be bored and destructive if left alone and inactive for lengthy periods. They fit the agility and hunting of dogs. You are also patient with kids and want to be with your family. They are nice with other dogs when they socialize. They are usually placid and autonomous and not as excited as cocker spaniels. The Intelligence of Dogs by Stanley Coren rates the race in working intelligence as being above average.
Health
The Field Spaniel is susceptible to several eye diseases. Cataracts, atrophy of retinals and dysplasia of the retinal. In British Field Spaniels, hip dysplasia appeared. The Field Spaniel breeders are highly recommended for auditors and score for hips by the Kennel Club and British Veterinary Association. The major reason for death among Field Spaniels was cancer, with the second leading cause being age, in a health study performed by the Kennel Club (UK). The typical life span of the breed was 11 years and 8 months, five months over the median age for all dog breeds. As the writers pointed out, however,A response rate of only 24%, as the authors observed, might have led to a reduction in accuracy.
